Nestle Responds to Eco-pressure in Rainforests

by john on March 22, 2010

When big corporations do the right thing, they deserve some credit. Even if it took some pressure to make them do it.

I posted this on Facebook after see how Nestle has stopped buying palm oil from Sinar Mas, an Indonesian producer, with a bad track record of rainforest destruction.

This is good news on one hand, as it underscores both the nature of corporate engagement in rainforest loss and the pressure that can be brought to bear by consumers. But there is a back story, as Shae Gunther from Mother Nature Network has reported, as Nestle has pushed a social media campaign on Facebook that may continue to backfire for them.

This link takes you to Nestle’s Facebook page – filter for Nestle only on their wall and see how the Facebook community is responding.

Its an interesting time we live in. The opportunities for us to increase our awareness and to make a difference are expanding rapidly……Take Advantage of Them!!
